Reflections
We hold the “Reflections” Annual Conference every year, with the aim of stimulating panel discussions about local current affairs among different stakeholders in Hong Kong. Our panels this year promise fascinating discussion and diverse perspectives on three timely topics, namely the popularisation of the sports industry, apprehension concerning the Northern Metropolis project, and labour challenges under Hong Kong’s labour importation policy. Previous conferences have been well attended by over 300 participants. The speakers of Reflections 2026 include Mr. Tsang Yok-sing, Ms. Law Shuk-pui, Mr. Choi Yuk-kwan, Prof. Yeh Gar-on, and Mr. Leung Tsz-wing.
Inter-university Quiz (IUQ)
Our flagship event, the Inter-University Quiz (IUQ), is a competition among the Hong Kong communities in universities across the UK. The competitors are quizzed on a range of topics, including Hong Kong culture, politics, history, sports, and entertainment news.
IUQ 2026 was attended by over 150 participants from 11 societies, and was championed by University of Cambridge.
Social Innovator Programme (SIP)
Social Innovators Programme (SIP) is a series of speaker events, with the purpose of connecting students with inspiring leaders in Hong Kong who have contributed to the city positively. Over the past, we have invited Mr. Jasper Tsang, Dr. Allan Zeman, Mr. Albert Wong, Prof. Lau Chak Sing and Mr. Matthew Cheung to join our SIP Programme.
Cambridge Hong Kong and World Affairs Essay Competition
The Cambridge University Hong Kong and China Affairs Society (CUHKCAS) is excited to launch the 2026-27 Cambridge Hong Kong and World Affairs Essay Competition. We challenge secondary school students to tackle pressing questions regarding legal evolution, cultural industries, and global capitalism. Take this unique opportunity to showcase your critical thinking and have your work evaluated by world-class Cambridge academics.
Essay topics are as follows:
∙ In the context of legal evolution, has the emphasis on procedural consistency served to protect social equity, or has it functioned as a tool for institutional preservation at the expense of moral justice?
∙ To what extent are Hong Kong’s arts and creative industries underinvested, and is this a justifiable tradeoff in resource allocation? Discuss with reference to talent discrimination, cultural diversity, and other relevant dimensions.
∙ Is capitalism compatible with democracy?
Entry to the competition is free of charge
Entry eligibility: Students 1) enrolled in secondary schools located in Hong Kong, or 2) in secondary schools overseas who are permanent residents of the academic year 2026-27.
Your entry for the Academic Essay should be submitted to the Google Form (link in Instagram bio) by 9th August 2026.
Submissions this year will be marked by a panel formed by experts from the University of Cambridge and/or Hong Kong universities.
